COLUMBIA — Increased expenses and decreased funds characterized the 2010-11 budget amendment that was unanimously passed by the Columbia School Board on Thursday.
The 2010-11 budget amendment reduces funding for bus transportation by $1.4 million as a result of state budget cuts.
Superintendent Chris Belcher said the Columbia Public School District is still receiving the maximum allowed funding for transportation from the state but that amount was decreased.
The budget amendment also increases expenses by $81,000 to absorb costs stemming from the loss of grant funding for school nurses. The School Nurse Health Grant was cut because of state-level budget reductions.
The 2010-11 school budget begins the fiscal year with $2.9 million in excess as the district waits to see how the state has finalized its budget.
The board also made a correction to a clerical error in the 2009-10 budget.
Belcher said he hopes further amendments to the 2010-11 budget will not be necessary.
