PrintBeginning Friday, the number of law enforcement officers will increase for a 24-hour crackdown on traffic violations along Interstate 70.
The heightened patrol of I-70 will focus on traffic violations such as speeding and impaired driving. It will last until 6 a.m. on Saturday.
The effort is part of the Heat is On campaign meant to focus on decreasing the number of summer traffic accidents. Along with increasing patrols along Interstate 70, Interstate 44 and Interstate 270, the campaign will include radio and Internet advertisements promoting safe driving. Fatal car accidents occur most frequently between July and September.
Maj. Tom Reddin of the Boone County Sheriff’s Department said, “I think efforts by law enforcement to make the public aware that these laws are going to be enforced and educate them about what can happen when they drive impaired ... is a good program.”

I ride a bicycle, you insensitive clod! ...But seriously, when I do drive a motor vehicle, I've already reformed my driving habits. I don't speed much anymore. Drive slow, drive safe.
I do expect the abnormal enforcement effort to cause traffic snarls. Can you say "rear-end collisions" and "road rage"?
