PrintCOLUMBIA — A 52-year-old woman has pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from the discovery of more than two dozen cats in her Columbia motel room.
Susan Kohler was charged earlier this month with having too many animals and animal abuse after animal control officers found 28 cats in a motel room where she had been living. Four dead kittens were also found in a freezer in the room.

The Columbia Daily Tribune reported that Kohler's attorney Steve Wilson entered the not guilty plea on her behalf Friday.
The court is expected to decide Monday who will have immediate custody of the cats, who were taken to the Central Missouri Humane Society.
