PrintAt its meeting Wednesday night, the Citizens Police Review Board is scheduled to discuss its first-ever complaint.
The board received its first complaint in June about the Feb. 11 SWAT raid at 1501 Kinloch Court. In this raid, the SWAT team killed a pit bull and injured another family dog. Police found a small amount of marijuana in the house. A child was also present during the raid.
- Read the letter regarding an appeal with the Citizens Police Review Board sent by California resident Ed Rosenthal after Police Chief Ken Burton sent him a letter rejecting his initial complaint.
- These documents, obtained by the Missourian through a Missouri Sunshine Law records request, contain the participating officers' individual reports of the Feb. 11 SWAT raid on 1501 Kinloch Court in which police officers shot and killed a pit bull.
California resident Ed Rosenthal complained first to the police department and then to the review board after reviewing a YouTube video of the raid.
According to a previous Missourian article, Rosenthal said his concerns lay with police department policies.
"If that's usual police procedure, it gets down to the very management of the Police Department," Rosenthal said.
Rosenthal brought up these concerns in the appeal letter he sent to the review board. "The police chief knew his officers were violating standard procedure and should work diligently to right this obstruction of justice," Rosenthal said in the letter.
Board chairwoman Ellen Lo-Curto Martinez said she didn't know if any decisions would be made at the meeting, which will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the City Council Chambers at the new City Hall building. Members of the public who attend the meeting will be given a chance to speak during the public comments portion of the meeting.
