Man wanted in connection with domestic violence case, auto theft

COLUMBIA — The Boone County Sheriff's Department has asked for the public's help in finding a suspect in a domestic violence case from June.

John Roy Jones, 52, is wanted on suspicion of robbery, auto theft, domestic violence and failure to comply with the conditions of home detention, said Detective Tom O'Sullivan of the sheriff's department.

On the evening of June 20, deputies responded to a call from a 37-year-old woman near Jones' home on Kensington Lane in Columbia, O'Sullivan said. The woman reported that Jones had assaulted her and driven away in her vehicle, a maroon 1997 Subaru Legacy.

The vehicle, with Missouri license plate CF1-G0C, has not been recovered.

Jones and the victim were in a relationship.

"This was like a domestic relationship gone south," O'Sullivan said.

Jones was on home detention for reasons related to domestic violence, O'Sullivan said.

Domestic violence cases such as this one are usually solved quickly, he said, but the department has not been able to find Jones, which is why they are asking for the public's help now.

"We have been out there looking for him the past three weeks and just haven't been able to find him," O'Sullivan said. "We usually are able to arrest the guy that night or the next day, or they turn themselves in a couple days later."

Jones is originally from Fayette and has associates in St. Louis and Kansas City.

"He may have blown town, I don't know," O'Sullivan said. "Eventually this guy will get picked up. We'd just rather do it sooner than later."

Jones is 5-feet-11-inches tall, weighs approximately 180 pounds, is black and has black hair and brown eyes.
