The city's Office of Cultural Affairs offers an online guide to the City’s publicly accessible art collection. The website offers photos and audio clips that give context to each project.
The City Council votes to designate which projects are a fit for the Percent for Art program. *Projects eligible for that designation must be above-ground capital improvements projects that exceed $1 million.
No more than three projects may be initiated during one fiscal year. Ten projects are completed, and six more are planned or in progress.
The art must be in a location that will enhance the public environment and civic pride.
Columbia and Kansas City are the only Missouri cities with a Percent for Art program, according to a previous Missourian article.
A portion of the amount dedicated to each project is designated for maintenance of the artwork. Of the 16 total installments, $556,600 has been set aside for artists’ commissions.
