VOTERS GUIDE: Cisse Spragins

Cisse Spragins, a Libertarian candidate for U.S. Senate, said she wants to “reduce the size, scope and power of federal government.”

Spragins said she is running because she is “extremely concerned about the direction our country is going.”

“I’m not a politician, but I felt I had to do something and not just go about my life and hope things happen or don’t happen,” she said.

She has been active in the Libertarian Party since 2002 because she said she wasn't happy with what she saw the government doing. She is chairwoman of the Missouri Libertarian Party, and this is her first time running for office.

Working in what she calls the “productive sector” is what she considers her greatest asset. Spragins is the founder and CEO of Rockwell Labs Ltd, a pest control manufacturing company.

“I’m forced every day to comply with massive loads of regulations enforced by the government,” Spragins said.

Her career isn't in politics, but she said that doesn't faze her.

“The founders envisioned citizen politics," Spragins said. "They didn’t envision that people were going to be career politicians. We need people that actually have real world experience.”

She said she’s running to reduce government spending, end the wars overseas “as quickly as we can do safely for the troops,” repeal the Patriot Act and fight the “government’s drug war” and the “government surveillance state.”

“I am passionate about spreading the concept of liberty, and I’ve been educating myself on those concepts for years,” Spragins said. "We’re not going to have any significant or positive change in this country until we educate."
