U.S. Senate job description

The U.S. Senate is the upper house of the U.S. Congress. Along with voting on legislation, the main responsibilities of the Senate include ratifying treaties, confirming the president's government appointments and trying impeachments.
There are two senators from each state. Terms are six years. There is no term limit.

The salary for senators is $174,000.
Missouri is represented by Senators Kit Bond (R) and Claire McCaskill (D). Bond's seat is up for election this year.
To be eligible, candidates must:
- Be at least 30 years old.
- Be a U.S. citizen for at least nine years.
- Live in the state they plan to represent.
