PrintCOLUMBIA — A man from Harrisburg was arrested Tuesday evening after threatening two people with a sword, according to a news release from the Boone County Sheriff's Department.
At 8:53 p.m. Tuesday, sheriff's deputies responded to a disturbance in the 1400 block of Route J. Two adult victims were driving on Route J when someone started to follow them closely in a vehicle, the release said. The male victim stopped his truck to allow the suspect, William Edward Jones III, to pass.

The release said Jones pulled in front of the victims, exited his vehicle, pulled out a sword and threatened the victims with it. He then struck and damaged the victims' truck. No one was injured. The victims reportedly knew Jones.
The two victims drove from the scene to the male victim's residence, followed by Jones. The male victim said he backed his truck into the suspect's truck because he believed Jones would assault him if provided the opportunity, the release said.
Jones reportedly left the area when the sheriff's department was called, the release said.
Jones, 47, was arrested later Tuesday evening. He was charged with unlawful use of a weapon, third degree domestic assault and second degree property damage, the release said. He was released from Boone County Jail at approximately 6:15 a.m. after making a $500 bail.
