COLUMBIA — Columbia is under an excessive heat warning and a hazardous weather outlook, according to the National Weather Service.
Tuesday's high is expected to be near 100 degrees with a heat index as high as 109 degrees.
The weather service predicts Wednesday's high will be near 98 degrees with a heat index as high as 105 degrees. There is also a 20 percent chance of showers for Wednesday.
The excessive heat warning is expected to last until 8 p.m. Wednesday.
The service recommends drinking plenty of fluids and staying in air-conditioned areas. If you work outside, wear light-colored clothing, avoid caffeine and alcohol and take frequent breaks to avoid heat-related illness
