PrintCOLUMBIA — A high-speed car chase ended Friday after suspects driving a stolen car crashed near the border of Callaway County.
The Boone County Sheriff's Department has one man in custody. Two more have not yet been located.
The chase began after deputies, through the use of a license plate reader system, determined the car was reported stolen in Pettis County, said Maj. Tom Reddin of the Boone County Sheriff's Department. The license plate reader is a camera attached to patrol cars that scans passing vehicles' license plates to look for stolen cars and outstanding warrants for a car's owner.
The driver of the stolen car didn't pull over for the deputies, and a chase ensued, Reddin said. Three deputies pursued the car south on U.S. 63 into Callaway County, where the chase ended when the stolen car hit spike strips laid by Callaway County officers.
After the car veered off the road, Reddin said, three suspects fled on foot, and one of those was apprehended.
Boone County Sheriff's Department officials have not released the apprehended suspect's name or age, but Reddin said they are interviewing him and that they are gaining useful information.

It is always a good idea to know which vehicles are the ones that might get stolen from you. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety keeps a list of automobiles that are stolen probably the most.
