The Daniel Boone Little League American All-Stars suffered their first loss of the season in nine games, losing 12-1 to Canyon Lake Little League of South Dakota in their second game of the Midwest Regional Tournament on Sunday in Indianapolis. The game ended after four innings because South Dakota led by more than 10 runs.
Daniel Boone Little League’s normally potent offense was held in check. They struck out 10 times and only managed two hits.
“They had a really good left-handed pitcher who didn’t throw hard but had a really good curveball,” head coach Greg Kespohl said by phone. “He did a good job of mixing pitches and getting our hitters to chase. He didn’t just throw, he pitched.”
The defense also struggled, committing four errors. Kespohl said his team was a little embarrassed after the game, not necessarily because they were blown out, but by the way they played.
“I can’t guarantee we’ll win tomorrow,” Kespohl said. “But I think we’ll play better, more indicative of how we’re capable of playing.”
The team continues play Monday at noon versus Iowa’s Grandview Little League.
