When those of us with AT&T cell phones tried to place calls in the newsroom on Monday morning, we realized something was wrong with the service.
A few of us have been able to speak with service representatives and have been told that a tower that serves the area is out of service. We don't know how far it extends or how long it will last.
UPDATE at 3:15 p.m.: A corporate media relations spokeswoman said she is looking into the situation and will get back to us.

My wife and I's service has been terrible the last couple of weeks. We used to get 3G at our house but haven't for about two weeks.
My service was out from about 2:45-3:15 on East Campus.
Thanks, Alex and Ed. A couple of us here are in touch with folks at corporate. Answers are hard to come by. I know my personal phone has been not making or accepting calls since 10 a.m.

Hi, I have been in touch via e-mail with a media relations spokeswoman who told be she would look into the issue. I haven't heard any further information from her though.
The media spokeswoman said the since AT&T hadn't heard any widespread complaints, they believe that it is an isolated incident and issued the following statement.
"We are sorry to hear that some customers in the Columbia area have been unable to make wireless calls today. We are looking into the matter, but are not seeing an issue with the cell site in the area. We apologize for the inconvenience and will give updates as available."
Following up on yesterday's problems, I just got a call from a social media manager from AT&T. He said there was unexpected work done on a local tower yesterday. We haven't heard of any complaints today. Let us know if you're still having problems, Columbia AT&T customers.
