Top Missouri receiver breaks bone in wrist

COLUMBIA — The depth of the Missouri football team's wide receivers will now be tested.

Junior wide receiver Jerrell Jackson broke the scaphoid bone in his left wrist in practice on Wednesday. That wrist is now in a cast, according to team spokesperson Chad Moller.

The expected recovery time for a scaphoid fracture is four weeks, but according to the American Academy of Family Physicians, if the bone is healing correctly, Jackson could be free of pain in just two weeks.

Jackson has been the Tigers' No. 1 receiver entering preseason training camp, and quarterback Blaine Gabbert's go-to receiver in passing drills and scrimmages.

If Jackson is out four weeks, he would miss the Tigers' season opener against Illinois. After that Sept. 4 game, the Tigers do not play another BCS conference school until Oct. 9, when Colorado and Missouri open their Big 12 schedules in Columbia.
