COLUMBIA — A man injured in the Monday morning motorcycle accident that resulted in the death of an MU student has been released from University Hospital.
Hospital spokeswoman Barbie Morgan confirmed that Aaron Hansberry, 21, was released after receiving treatment for a broken right leg.
Hansberry was driving the motorcycle, identified by police as a 1981 Yamaha, when the accident occurred on East Nifong Boulevard. His passenger, Caitlin Valora, 20, died in the crash.
Hansberry and Valora were riding westbound on East Nifong Boulevard toward State Farm Parkway at about 11 a.m. Monday, authorities said. The two streets form a T-intersection; East Nifong Boulevard dead ends at State Farm Parkway.
The motorcycle continued through the intersection, hit the curb on State Farm Parkway and became airborne, police said. Valora was pronounced dead at the scene.
Medical examiner Eddie Adelstein said Tuesday that an autopsy had been performed on Valora, but he was unaware of the results. The medical examiner's office did not immediately return phone calls Thursday.
Sgt. Shelley Jones of the Columbia Police Department Traffic Unit said an investigation of the accident was ongoing as of Thursday afternoon.
