Missouri primary votes now official, recounts possible

JEFFERSON CITY — Republican Roy Blunt and Democrat Robin Carnahan now officially are nominees for the U.S. Senate.
Carnahan, in her role as secretary of state, on Tuesday certified the results of the Aug. 3 primaries — meaning the vote totals are official.

Carnahan and Blunt both easily won their senatorial primaries. But the margins were so close in three Democratic Missouri House races that the losers could seek re-counts.
The closest contest was in Kansas City, where John Joseph Rizzo beat Will Royster by three votes in the 40th District. Victors also had margins of less than 1 percentage point in the 5th District in northwest Missouri and the 77th District in St. Louis.
Losing candidates have one week to request a re-count.
