COLUMBIA — The Hickman girls volleyball team has started practice and Kewpies coach Greg Gunn is working with the team on bonding and having fun.
The season officially began on Aug. 12 with a team day in which players had the opportunity to get to know each other on and off of the volleyball court. The idea is that a strong bond off of the court will translate into a better communication and sportsmanship on the court.
Seven of the players on the Kewpies' 2010 squad are seniors and have had many opportunities to play with each other in the past.
“Having that many seniors has the advantage of the experience and leadership, but it also lends itself to the old too many chefs in the kitchen’ problem," Gunn said. "We haven’t seen too much of that so far, thankfully.”
The team has been working hard for its first home game against Boonville High School on Sept. 7.
“I expect the girls to do well this year because of the combination of their experience, the time they have spent playing together, and their collective commitment to a successful senior season," Gunn said.
