PrintOn Saturday, city officials met to discuss the tight budget for the upcoming fiscal year. During the meeting, the City Council laid out a list of amendments they would like to see to City Manager Bill Watkin's proposed budget.
“It’s up to us to cut as much of this budget as we can,” Mayor Bob McDavid said in an article in the Missourian. “Anything that will not affect the service of the city is on the chopping block.”

With that philosophy in mind, the council set out to trim the budget. After a day of meeting, here were some areas where the council wants to cut:
- Decreasing travel and training for employees city-wide by 50 percent or $250,000
- Cutting the council's food budget
- Not increasing the Planning and Zoning Commission or Citizens Police Review Board budgets.
In addition to these cuts, Watkins made several cuts from last year in his proposed budget. The public still has several opportunities to comment about the city's budget for the 2011 fiscal year.

Get rid of the food budget totally. Make Fire,Police and all major city infrastructure the major priorities before Parks and Recreation always. With out the internal infrastructure in top operating order at all times this city cannot operate properly so other less important amenities can operate later as funding permits.
