COLUMBIA — The Columbia College volleyball team started its season with a 25-12, 25-14, 25-8 victory Monday over visiting Central Methodist.
The Cougars, ranked No. 7 in the NAIA preseason poll, dominated from the opening serve, notching 14 kills in the first game and outhitting the Eaglers 26-6 in the last two games.
Vesna Trivunovic and Serena Jenkins led Columbia College with 11 kills apiece. Trivunovic added four aces and two blocks. Paula Ferreira had 24 assists while senior Tally Mattos posted 14 digs.
Columbia College returns to the court on Friday and Saturday when it hosts the Quality Inn Classic.
The Cougars take on Friends (Kan.) University at 11 a.m. and Lindenwood at 7 p.m. on Friday and Wiley (Texas) College at 11 a.m. and the University of Texas at Brownsville at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
