COLUMBIA —Some Columbia drivers may notice new traffic patterns this fall.
As part of the Columbia Parks and Recreation pedway project, construction of a new concrete sidewalk for pedestrians and bicycles will begin Tuesday, weather permitting, Richard Perkins, engineering aid with the Parks and Recreation Department, said. The sidewalk will stretch 1.2 miles from Hinkson Creek to Stadium Boulevard along Old 63.
Drivers can expect lane closures between Hinkson Creek and Stadium Boulevard.
Also, the bridge on Green Valley Drive will be closed and modified for pedestrian and bicycle use only, the Parks and Recreation blog said.
The pedway project is working to connect the Hinkson Creek Trail to Stephens Lake Park. The total cost for the project is $840,000. The Missouri Department of Transportation is funding $468,000 and Columbia Parks and Recreation is covering the remaining $372,000.
Perkins said depending on the weather, the project should be completed in January 2011.
