Smith shared the honor with Texas junior linebacker Keenan Robinson, who had six tackles, a fumble return for a touchdown and an interception in the Longhorns’ 34-17 win over Rice.
The last player to win the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week award for the Tigers was Sean Weatherspoon, who received the honor after his performance against Buffalo in 2008. Aldon Smith joins Justin Smith, Brian Smith and Stryker Sulak as Tigers defensive ends to receive the award.
