JEFFERSON CITY — The National Biodiesel Board honored retiring Sen. Kit Bond with a lifetime achievement award.

Representatives of the soybean and biodiesel industries praised Bond Thursday for helping secure federal money for early research on converting soybeans to fuel.

The Republican from Mexico is retiring this year after spending 24 years in the Senate.

Among those attending Bond's award ceremony in Jefferson City was Democratic Congressman Ike Skelton. He praised Bond's bipartisanship and his support for military troops.

The award was the latest in a series of accolades for the retiring senator. In the past 16 months, Bond has received awards from 16 organizations.
