PrintThis Saturday, a Florida church is planning to burn 200 copies of the Quran on the ninth anniversary of Sept. 11.
Pastor Terry Jones, who leads the Dove Outreach Center in Gainesville, Fla., said in a Reuters report that the church is burning copies of the Quran to show that something is wrong with Islam and that we need to confront terrorism.
Although Jones’ actions are legally protected under the Constitution, many government, military and religious leaders are urging him not to go through with the book burning.
According to the BBC, Gen. David Petraeus, the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan, said the burning "could endanger troops and it could endanger the overall effort. It is precisely the kind of action the Taliban uses and could cause significant problems."
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said the burning is “disgraceful” and not representative of the American people.
Even Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin weighed in on the issue on her Facebook page, calling it “insensitive and an unnecessary provocation.”

@Bebe Box what about Freedom of Speech and Expression guaranteed by the First Amendment? Do we see any "government official" getting this upset when somebody burns Old Glory,a Bible or a Cross on our lands here or over seas? I have not,that is for sure. I do not agree with what he is doing but what does the Constitution allow?
Is AMERICA (all capital letters) a different political entity from America, where most Americans live? Just curious.
I have no further comments, until we find out whether the Qurans are actually burned.

While this clown of a "pastor" has the right to pay homage to Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451, just as that Imam may have the legal right to build the Cordoba Mosque near Ground Zero, both are in bad taste.
And rest assured, I know bad taste.
I don't like it, just because it bothers me that he could be putting many people's life in danger. He calls himself a minister. But to me this is just pure hate. My bible teaches me to love and pray for my enemies. This is AMERICA and there is freedom of religion!
Of course he has a right to burn it but again, it is a question of whether it is in "good taste" to do so. It is not. Neither is it in "good taste" to burn the Bible or any other item that means something to others.
The man is an ass and I am sorry that the media has paid any attention to him at all. He could have gone quietly into the woods behind his house and burned any book he wanted and no one would ever have to know. When are we going to stop encouraging these idiots by giving them attention?
