PrintCOLUMBIA — Replacement of the Turkey Creek Bridge south of Columbia on U.S. 63 has been rescheduled for Sept. 20, weather permitting.
The southbound bridge, south of Route AB and Deer Park Road, was scheduled to close on Thursday.
Construction crews will tear down and replace the structure as part of the Missouri Department of Transportation's Safe & Sound Bridge Improvement Program. It is one of 90 bridges being replaced or repaired in mid-Missouri.
Demolition and replacement will take about six weeks. During that time, one lane of southbound traffic will be diverted into one northbound lane for about 1.25 miles.
Motorists traveling between Jefferson City and Columbia should plan for additional time in their commute, according to a release from the transportation department.
The southbound bridge was built in 1925 and restored in 1967.
