COLUMBIA - Junior Dylan Barduzzi and sophomore Yudai Yamaguchi sparked Columbia College men's soccer in 2-0 win against defending NCAA Division II national champion Fort Lewis College Sunday afternoon.
The Cougars scored in the first half after Yamaguchi redirected a Barduzzi free kick. In the second half, Barduzzi stole the ball deep in Skyhawk territory, and drew a penalty kick when a Fort Lewis defender fouled him. He then drilled the penalty kick, putting the Cougars ahead 2-0.
Columbia College held on for the victory despite junior John Hutchison's ejection in the middle of the second half, leaving the Cougars with ten players for the final minutes of the game. Hutchinson, the Cougars' leading goal scorer, will miss Columbia College's next game against the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
The Cougars' record now stands level at 2-2.
