PrintCOLUMBIA — The black Chevy Tahoe used by suspects thought to be connected with a string of recent thefts was sighted just south of Columbia, according to a news release from the Columbia Police Department.
A witness reported seeing a male in his mid-20s changing the Tennessee plate on the car to Missouri registration CD6G1H at the Pierpont Store just south of the city, according to the release.
The female driver matched the description provided in a previous Missourian report.
According to a previous Missourian report, in the past week, Columbia residents reported six thefts from parked cars. The thefts were reported at the Academy of Fine Arts, Jazzercise and Green Meadows Day Care. Items stolen included purses, wallets, bank cards and drivers' licenses.
On Friday, the Police Department suggested the group of suspects might be connected with the Felony Lane Gang after they tried to cash a stolen check at a Bank of America, according to the Missourian report.
According to the article, surveillance videos from the bank provided some clues about the suspects’ appearance. The videos show four men accompanying female suspects to the bank. The videos also showed that the suspects drove three vehicles — the black 2010 Chevy Tahoe with a Tennessee license plate, a tan or gold Toyota sedan and a dark gray Chevy Impala or Malibu.
