PrintMU's newest tailgating location didn't seem too popular on Saturday, according to a Missourian report.
The Jungle, as the student-only lot is called, was empty for most of the afternoon leading up to the Missouri's 50-6 victory over McNeese State. Out of 54 spots, 13 were reserved by six organizations.
The Missouri Students Association hosted the opening of the lot.
“The Jungle will provide a new, safe way for students of the University of Missouri to tailgate before the start of every home football game,” according to the MSA website.
Several restrictions are in place at lot CG-17, which was converted to The Jungle, including:
- No vehicles can be inside the lot.
- No glass, hard alcohol, kegs or beer balls.
- Coolers can't be larger than 70 quarts.
- Post-game tailgating isn't allowed.
- No underage drinking. Those who are 21 must be ready to show identification.
Five officers were assigned to the lot since this was an official university event, MU Police Capt. Brian Weimer said in the article.
Senior Matt Hickey, 22, said the officers being there was a strong deterrent to using the lot.
"Even if you're of age, it's uncomfortable to be around cops when you're drinking," he said in the previous Missourian report.

wow that sucks takes all the fun out of it!
Cartoonist Darkow of the Tribune has addressed this situation humorously. It seems MU is designated an alcohol-free campus - except where it is now designated otherwise! (Darkow's rendering of Chancellor Deaton was marvelous.)
Things are pretty tame these days. Sixty years ago this university's OTHER football team (which is still in business) was occasionally penalized 15 yards for unsportsmanlike conduct due to fans tossing empty beer bottles onto the playing field. That's what you'd call a tough crowd.
