COLUMBIA — Community members will gather next month in an attempt to break the world record for the most people dressed as superheroes in one location.
“Be a Superhero for Columbia Public Schools,” organized by the Columbia Public Schools Foundation, is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Oct. 30 at the Hickman High School football field.
The official count will be taken at 12:15 p.m. to determine whether the record of 1,500 costumed attendees has been broken.
The free event will include food, music, contests and games. Donations will be accepted and will benefit Columbia public schools.
Event organizers and Columbia Public Schools Superintendent Chris Belcher held a press conference Tuesday dressed as superheroes. Belcher was dressed as Mr. Incredible.
“This is a great opportunity to do something fun,” Belcher said.
Each person must be dressed as a recognizable superhero or villain from a published book, comic, television program or film.
Volunteers are needed for the event and sponsorship is available. For more information call 823-1308 or e-mail seanspence@earthlink.net.
