33rd Annual Heritage Festival will be held this weekend

COLUMBIA — The annual Heritage Festival will be Saturday and Sunday at Nifong Park. Events will begin at 10 a.m. and last until 5 p.m. A section of the park will be kept open from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Saturday for ghost stories presented by the Mid-Missouri Organization of Storytelling.

In addition to shopping and food, other activities will include:

Fun for Young ’uns area

            Includes arts and crafts, games, hayrides and a farm animal viewing area.

• 1859 Town

            A replica of a 19th century village with living history interpreters.

• Prospector Camp

            Where people can pan for “gold.”

• Music Shows

            Includes German, folk, bluegrass, classic cowboy tunes and western swing music.

World champion trick roper Joan Wells will be performing alongside Professor Farquar’s Medicine Man Show, Spike Bones’ 19th century minstrel show and Pole Cat Annie’s historical entertainment.

Parking for the festival will be provided in three locations adjoining the park.

The Heritage Festival is coordinated by Columbia Parks and Recreation.
