COLUMBIA — An 18-year-old female bicyclist was hit by a car around 7:30 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of College Avenue and Rogers Street.
The woman might have suffered a knee injury, Columbia Police Department spokeswoman Jill Wieneke said. Wieneke said she wasn't sure if the woman was taken to the hospital.
Wieneke said she was unsure if anyone involved was issued a citation.
Cynthia Richards of MU's Veterinary School said the woman was crossing College Avenue and was clipped by a car traveling southbound.
A full accident report could take up to two weeks to process, Police Department spokeswoman Officer Jessie Haden said.

Well it`s time to ban all cars from the streets of Columbia.
It`s just to dangerous to have these large metal hulks taking
up space that bike riders need to get about Columbia. Someones
going to get hurt. How about we all start walking everywhere
we need to go. Oh wait that would mean we would have to use the sidewalks and our legs thats not going to happen. When was the last time you saw lot of folks walking to get where they needed to go?? Uh maybe on campus or on football Saturday but thats it. Put the bikes back on the sidewalks and off the streets and this kind of thing will be a thing of the past. Thats the way it was done in the 40`s 50`s 60`s 70`s but then something strange happened to the way our city government worked. Huh????
Alert, defensive driving is always a good motto. Especially if you're a young person riding your bicycle out in traffic.
While it's unclear from the article if the cyclist was walking her bicycle across the intersection or riding it across the intersection, it might be prudent if college students dismount their bikes and became pedestrians when crossing intersections during rush hour traffic.
I hope this teenager's knee heals well and both the car driver and cyclist recover from the effects of this accident.
Ray, I'm not sure how getting off your bike and crossing an intersection more slowly is going to improve safety?
She was "crossing College" on Rogers/Paris, meaning she was going east or west, and was hit by a southbound car. Sounds to me like someone did not have a green light, because that's not supposed to happen.
