COLUMBIA — Residents of Boone and surrounding counties are encouraged to attend an electronic waste recycling event from 9 a.m. to noon on Sept. 25 at the Parkade Center in Columbia.
The event is hosted by the Missouri Computer Exchange, David Hopkins, an employee, said.
According to a flier advertising the event, electronic items accepted free of charge include:
- Laptops.
- Desktop PCs.
- Scanners.
- Computer components.
- Computer mice.
- Keyboards.
- Printers.
- Handheld electronics.
- Cell phones.
- Video game players and consoles.
- PDAs.
- MP3 players.
- Cameras.
- Stereos.
- CD players.
- Telephones.
Televisions, computer monitors, microwaves and copy machines will also be accepted for a $5 fee.
Items will be refurbished or demanufactured. Most items will be given to nonprofit organizations, according to the flier. Items that are demanufactured will be recycled and computer items will not be placed in a landfill.
This project is funded in part by a grant from the Mid-Missouri Solid Waste Management District.
