PrintA tuition increase looks certain for MU students. In an address to the UM System Board of Curators, UM System President Gary Forsee addressed a potential tuition increase, according to a previous Missourian article.
"Without question we will have to come to the board to increase tuition,” Forsee said to the board.
He expects the state legislature to cut higher education funding by 10 percent, but that number could increase or decrease. If this much is cut from the higher education budget, the in-state tuition freeze agreement will most likely end.
The Board of Curators will meet in December to set the tuition for the next year. If it is raised, it could only increase by the state's inflation rate, according to Missouri statutes.
He said the system is trying to come up with ways to save money and help offset any funding cuts, according to the article.
“Missouri has continued to err on the side of students,” Forsee said. “I expect each chancellor, and therefore their student financial aid organizations and budget planning organizations, to be sure to hear their perspective.”
With that said, should the university increase tuition for students next year?
