Army Corps to discuss Missouri River soil study

JEFFERSON CITY — Federal officials are reviewing a study of sediment in the Missouri River.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers requested the study after Missouri officials objected to plans to dredge miles of side channels to create better habitat for endangered fish. Dirt from the side channels was to be dumped into the river.
Missouri officials have been opposed to putting sediment into the river.

The study was conducted by the National Academy of Sciences. Corps officials were expected to discuss the findings Tuesday.
While waiting for the study, the Corps has focused on habitat restoration projects in other states along the river.
