PrintCOLUMBIA — The Columbia College volleyball team made quick work of Park University on Tuesday, defeating them 25-12, 25-15, 25-13 at Southwell Complex.
Outside hitter Vesna Trivunovic led the Cougars, registering 20 kills and three aces in the sweep. Middle hitter Ola Shawky also played well for Columbia College, notching nine kills and three blocks.
"We took care of business tonight," Cougars coach Melinda Wrye-Washington said.
This match followed a tournament in Michigan that had four formidable opponents, including Bellevue University, who took the Cougars to five games.
"That tournament made us raise our quality of play," Wrye-Washington said. "It is very apparent that when we play top opponents, we play better afterwards."
The match was Columbia College's annual "Dig for the Cure" event, which is a nationwide effort to raise breast cancer awareness. The Cougars got into the spirit by wearing pink jerseys and matching shoelaces and hair ties.
Columbia College moved to 29-2 on the year with the victory, and 11-0 in conference play. The Cougars, who are No. 6 in the NAIA Top 25, face Stephens College at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Southwell Complex.
