COLUMBIA — A Columbia soldier died after suffering wounds in an attack earlier this month in Arif Kala, Afghanistan.
The Department of Defense announced Monday the death of Sgt. 1st Class Charles M. Sadell, 34, of Columbia. He died Sunday at the National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Md.

Sadell suffered wounds on Oct. 5 when insurgents attacked his unit using an improvised explosive device, the Defense Department said. He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 71st Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, N.Y.

Words cannot express the bravery and honor of Sgt. 1st Class Charles M. Sadell. He will always be remembered as an American Hero. There are special people in this world who walk the walk & fight to protect the values of our country. They are the people who we know will always give all until the job at hand is done. They are America's finest. Sgt. 1st Class Charles M. Sadell was one of those people. He will be missed. Our deepest condolences to his family & friends.
I salute Sgt. 1st. Class Charles M. Sadell for his service to our country.
Rest in Peace, sir.

Although even one lost soldier is everyone's loss, no loss is a great as a parent's.
Hopefully the prayers that so many of us around the world offer to the grieving
family - whose child is among the bravest of the brave-can be of some small solace.
Sgt. 1st Class Charles Sadell is now sharing his rest amongst the most
exaulted companions..
