COLUMBIA — A Columbia woman faces charges of first-degree arson and domestic assault after allegedly setting fire to a pillow and a pair of jeans on her boyfriend's bed, according to police.
Donna S. Book, 56, was arrested Saturday, Columbia Police Department spokeswoman Jill Wieneke said. Neighbors who saw smoke coming from the mobile home where Book and her boyfriend lived got the couple out of the home and put the fire out. No one was injured.
Wieneke said Book incriminated herself. “She told the officer the victim had lied to her, and she set the fire inside the residence so that he would get away from her.”
Book also is suspected in a Thursday episode in which witnesses and her boyfriend said she set a blanket on fire outside of her boyfriend’s bedroom door while he slept. The male witness put that fire out as well, Wieneke said.
Book faces two counts of first-degree arson, one count of first-degree domestic assault, one count of second-degree domestic assault and one count of third-degree assault of a law enforcement officer. Her total bond has not been set.
