New hearing ordered for man convicted in '90 Missouri murder

COLUMBIA — A Chillicothe man convicted twice for the 1990 slaying of a Missouri farm wife will have a new hearing amid continuing questions about the case.

Thirty-six-year-old Mark Woodworth was 16 when his neighbor, Cathy Robertson, was shot to death in her northern Missouri home. He's serving a life sentence for murder.

The state Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that Woodworth can present new testimony in his latest appeal. The court appointed Boone County Circuit Judge Gary Oxenhandler as its special master.

The prosecutor at Woodworth's first trial was Kenny Hulshof, who later served six terms in the U.S. House and made an unsuccessful run at governor.

On Wednesday, a different Missouri judge said that another man serving a life sentence in a murder prosecuted by Hulshof should go free. The state may still appeal that decision.
