COLUMBIA – The Columbia School Board announced at its meeting Monday that the name of the new high school has been chosen: Muriel Williams Battle High School.
A recommendation said the high school be named after not only Muriel but her husband, Eliot Battle, as well. Eliot Battle, 86, requested that his name be taken off. Guidelines discourage naming buildings after living people, according to a previous Missourian report.
