Missouri football defeats Kansas State 38-28

COLUMBIA--After struggling in its past two games, the No. 20 Missouri football team was effective offensively in its 38-28 win over Kansas State on Saturday at Memorial Stadium.

Tigers quarterback Blaine Gabbert went 17-for-25 for 208 yards passing in a game in which six receivers recorded catches and eight players ran the ball for 232 yards.

The Tigers were never completely able to pull away from the Wildcats in the second half. Missouri returned from halftime leading 21-14, and both offenses were stagnant until Jacquies Smith’s fumble recovery for a touchdown with 5:34 remaining in the third quarter.

Kansas State attempted a comeback in the fourth quarter, but its two on-side kicks were recovered by Missouri, a failed two-point conversion and three fumbles helped Missouri seal its victory.

Throughout the game, the Missouri defense capitalized on turnovers. In addition to his touchdown, Smith recovered another fumble, and Carl Gettis recovered a fumble in the third quarter. Jasper Simmons intercepted a Carson Coffman pass in the fourth quarter.

Missouri improved to 8-2 overall and 4-2 in the Big 12 Conference.
