Participants turned out Saturday morning to compete in the XCX — Cross Country Xtreme four-mile-plus off-road running event hosted by Off Track Events. The event took place in the forest near Midway Expo Sandbar and obstacles included mud pits and creeks.
Costumed participants make their way over the first creek crossing of the race. After starting in an easily passable open field, the four-mile course quickly turned treacherous and muddy.

Muddied runners dry off and warm up around a bonfire after the conclusion of the Cross Country Xtreme race on Saturday. Most participants didn't care about their times in the race and slogged through the course at their leisure.
