PrintThe Missouri women's basketball team had a tough time Thursday in the first round of the Paradise Jam tournament in the Virgin Islands, losing to No. 4-ranked Tennessee 82-44.
Senior RaeShara Brown was the lone bright spot for the Tigers (1-2), claiming a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. The next highest scorers for Missouri were senior Shakara Jones with six points and sophomore Sydney Crafton with five.
Missouri missed six of its first seven shots, and the Volunteers (5-0) built an 11-2 lead 5 minutes into the game. At halftime they led 43-24, and they outscored the Tigers 39-20 in the second half.
Four players scored in double figures for Tennessee, led by freshman Meighan Simmons' 14 points. Alicia Manning added 11 points, and Tabi Spani and Kamiko Williams each had 10. In all, 10 Volunteers players scored in the game.
Missouri was also plagued by 25 turnovers, 15 coming from the starting lineup. Missouri coach Robin Pingeton gave playing time to 12 out of the 14 players on the Tigers' roster.
The Tigers will face No. 12 Georgetown on Friday in their second match of the tournament.

How did the Mizzou Tiger women, early in the year, end up in a tourney with Tennessee and Georgetown?
I'll assume it was previously scheduled, years before.
With a new coach this year, let us hope the coach can put perspective on these games for the Mizzou women.
If they ever want to be good, they are going to have to play teams like this and win...but they shouldn't be playing them now.
Unless they just really wanted to find out how bad they are compared to premier programs in the country.
Whether that inspires the Mizzou women, their basketball team, to workout more, practice more, and play harder, remains to be seen.
