MU women's basketball team upsets No. 12 Georgetown

Jasmyn Otote wasn’t having a good night shooting.

The senior guard was 1-7 from the field and 1-5 from beyond the 3-point line. But as the Tigers clung to a 43-38 lead with just under 6 minutes left against No. 12 Georgetown on Friday, Otote hit back-to-back 3-pointers to cap a 10-0 run and give the Tigers an 11-point lead. Missouri (2-2) held on to win 54-45.

The upset came just one day after the Tigers' 38-point loss to No. 4 Tennessee in the first game of the Paradise Jam tournament in the U.S. Virgins Islands.

Senior guard RaeShara Brown led the Tigers with 17 points and 11 rebounds, recording her third straight double-double. Otote and junior guard Christine Flores each scored 12 points.

Neither team led by more than five points until Missouri’s 10-0 run late in the second half. The free throw line was one of the differences in the game for Missouri. The Tigers were 17-28 from the line, while Georgetown was 3-7. After Georgetown cut the lead to four with 1:06 left, Missouri finished off the Hoyas by sinking five of its last six free throws.

Georgetown (4-1) shot just 33 percent from the field and were 4-17 from the 3-point line. Sophomore guard Sugar Rodgers led the Hoyas with 13 points. Senior guard Monica McNutt added 10.

The Tigers finish play in the Paradise Jam with a matchup versus Georgia Tech on Saturday.
