PrintCOLUMBIA — The Missouri women’s basketball team was unable to ride the momentum of its upset of No. 12 Georgetown.
Missouri ended its trip to the U.S. Virgin Islands with a 61-46 loss to Georgia Tech on Saturday in the Paradise Jam tournament. The Tigers (2-3) finished the tournament with a 1-2 record after losing 82-44 to No. 4 Tennessee on Thursday and defeating No. 12 Georgetown 54-45 on Friday.
Playing three games in three days seemed to take its toll on a Missouri team that lacks depth off the bench. Led by senior guard RaeShara Brown’s 14 points, Missouri trailed just 27-26 going into halftime. With 8:24 left in the game, Missouri trailed 44-40, but were outscored 17-6 the rest of the way. Brown had just one point in the second half.
Senior forward Shakara Jones tried to keep the Tigers in the game, scoring all 10 of her points in the second half. Brown and junior forward Christine Flores led the Tigers with 15 points each. The rest of the team accounted for just six points.
Georgia Tech (4-4) secured its first win of the tournament. Junior point guard Metra Walthour led four Yellow Jackets in double figures. Walthour scored 19 points, senior Alex Montgomery had 14, senior Deja Foster scored 11 and junior Sasha Goodlett added 10.
The Tigers’ next game is 6 p.m. Wednesday at Ball State in Muncie, Ind.
