COLUMBIA — The Missouri men's basketball team defeated the Vanderbilt Commodores 85-82 in overtime Wednesday at Mizzou Arena.
In overtime, with the game tied at 82, Vanderbilt had the ball, but Marcus Denmon stole the ball, drove down the left side of the court and made a layup with 5.8 seconds left. He got fouled on the shot and, after a timeout, he made the free throw to give Missouri a 3-point lead.
Vanderbilt's Brad Tinsley took a long 3-pointer at the buzzer to try and send it to a second overtime, but he missed the basket.
Missouri led 40-37 at halftime, but the Tigers came out sluggish in the second half, making two of their first 10 shots. Vanderbilt took advantage, and the teams went back and forth for the remainder of the game.
With 6.6 seconds remaining in regulation, and Vanderbilt holding a 72-71 lead, Missouri's Ricardo Ratliffe was fouled by Vanderbilt's John Jenkins. After Ratliffe missed the first free throw, he made the second to tie it up and send the game to overtime.
In a game that saw 21 lead changes, the Tigers (7-1) were led by Denmon's 21 points.
