Westboro man elected Missouri Farm Bureau Federation president

JEFFERSON CITY — A northwest Missouri crop producer has been elected president of the state's largest farm organization.

Blake Hurst of Westboro was picked Tuesday at the Missouri Farm Bureau Federation's annual meeting. He succeeds outgoing president Charlie Kruse.

Hurst, 53, has served as the organization's vice president for seven years and was a board member for the eight years before that.

He and his wife, Julie, farm 4,500 acres of no-till crops in a family operation along with his father, two brothers, nephew and son-in law.

Hurst also is a freelance writer and authored a collection of essays in the book "Real Life."

When I first read this I thought "Westboro Baptist Church" and was horrified...glad to know that is not the case.
