Each week, the Missourian highlights a government record that is available to the public. Open records help people keep government in check and help them better understand how government affects their lives.

The records: The Columbia Parks and Recreation Department posts all of its master plan documents online. This particular one compares the number of various fields, courts and other facilities to state standards.
Why you'd want them: According to state standards, the city currently has a deficit in every outdoor facility category. Only under privately owned facilities do the number of soccer fields, multi-use courts and golf courses meet or exceed the ideal numbers set by the state.
Where you get the records: Go to http://www.gocolumbiamo.com/ParksandRec/Master_Plan/. Underneath Chapter Three is a link to a pdf called the "Comparison to Standards Chart - 2011"
How much will it cost: The information is free.
