LETTER: Reflective powder would make for safer roads

Three years ago I moved here to Columbia and fell in love with this fair city. My only complaint is the lack of reflective powder in the paint marking the lines on the roadways.

I have lived in 38 states and this is the only one that does not use the reflective powder in the lines on the roads. The visibility during rain or snow makes it impossible to see the white lines on the road. A little reflective powder would go a long way in lessening accidents during bad weather. Is there some reason that the city does not use this?

I was actually wondering if they put that powder all over the road. During rain the entire road is like a mirror making it impossible to see anything.

in other states it is MUCH easier to see the roads in bad weather. here it is inpossible! i have seen many not bale to be in the correct lane die to the fact they cannot see the lines!

Ripple Glass in KC recycles glass just for this purpose, I'm not sure how much MoDOT actually buys. Gov. Blunt's "Smoother, Safer, Sooner" project was supposed to include a very reflective tape to stripe the roads, I haven't seen it used anywhere in the state.
