Each week, the Missourian highlights a government record that is available to the public. Open records help people keep government in check and help them better understand how government affects their lives.

The records: The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education's profile of the Columbia Public Schools.
Why you'd want them: If you have a child in Columbia Public Schools, or are thinking about enrolling a child in the school system, you can find out more information about the district, including student dropout rates, average student ACT scores and student-to-staff ratios.
Where you get the records: Go to the department's website at http://dese.mo.gov, and then click on "School Statistics" on the right-hand side. Then, on the "School Statistics" homepage, click on "School Data and Statistics" and select "Columbia 93(010093)" from the dropdown list, which will then take you to the profile of Columbia Public Schools.
How much it will cost: The information is free.
