PrintKANSAS CITY — A judge has ruled that Jackson County law enforcement must give Lafayette County prosecutors and defense lawyers evidence they had not yet released in a sex abuse case involving members of a Missouri family.
Clay County Judge Larry Dale Harman has ruled that the Jackson County sheriff cannot be the "filtering device" on evidence and ordered the department to release the evidence in a "timely fashion." Lafeyette County Prosecutor Kelly Ritchie Wingate said she received the order Monday.

Six men, all members of the Mohler family, have pleaded not guilty to charges of molesting young relatives two decades ago in western Missouri's Lafayette County. Four of the cases are being heard in Clay County on a change of venue.
The Jackson County Sheriff's Department did not return calls seeking comment Monday.
