COLUMBIA — When Rock Bridge High School students return to class on Jan. 3 after a winter break, they will have a new school resource officer.
Officer Keisha Edwards has worked midnight and daytime patrol shifts for the Columbia Police Department since 2002. She also has worked in an off-duty capacity at Hickman and Douglass high school events for the past four years.
The main role of a resource officer is to be on campus during school hours maintaining the safety of the school. Michelle Baumstark, community relations coordinator for Columbia Public Schools, said there is at least one resource officer in each Columbia secondary school.
Edwards also is a member of the Crisis Negotiation Team and Crisis Intervention Team.
